Willow Creek Fire June 10th evening update.

WILLOW CREEK FIRE

 

Heber City, Utah June 10, 2018 – The Willow Creek Fire, 453 acres, 10% Containment, is located north of Highway 40 and Strawberry Reservoir on the Heber-Kamas Ranger District. The fire was reported on June 6th, lightning cause.  Currently there are no threats to structures, powerlines, etc. Firefighters are using modified suppression techniques on this fire to help regenerate aspen growth, minimize fire effects in Critical Sage Grouse habitat, and firefighter and public safety.    Fire crews will be utilizing firing techniques (aerial and hand ignitions) to minimize firefighter and public risk and to reduce the duration of the incident starting Monday June 11, 2018.  Fire is burning in heavy timber with thick understory.

Resources on the fire are 3 engines, one 20 person Type 1 Hotshot crew, one 20 person IA crew and one helicopter.  Total personnel on the fire is 85.

Starting June 11, 2018 Bjorkman Hollow road will be closed along with an area closure of the fire area. Area closure is North of Highway 40, west of Co-op Creek road (area closure includes Forest Service roads #451 and #393), south of Bjorkman Hollow road and east of Strawberry River road (area closure includes Forest Service roads #389 and #735).  This area will be closed for public and firefighter safety.  Co-Op road will remain open up to the seasonal closure gate.  Strawberry River road will also remain open.  Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) will be in place tomorrow, June 11, 2018.
