FS to suppress Sauls Fire

Thursday, Saul’s fire grew by 100 acres when winds pushed it to the north. It produced a column of smoke that could be seen for miles. The fire, which is burning in the Sanpitch mountains, began burning May 14. Fire crews from the Forest Service had contained the fire, though interior burning has continued since. The Forest Service has dispatched two hand crews, two engines, and a Type 3 helicopter to suppress the fire.

The fire is burning in white fir and dead trees at the top of Saul’s Canyon west of the town of Wales. Because of the high elevation, smoke will  likely be visible from I-15, Juab, Sanpete, and Sevier counties until the fire is suppressed.
