Wildfire Fact Sheet- Cove Creek Fire – July 23, 2018

Summary: This lightning caused wildfire started on July 17, 2018 at approximately 3:00 pm. The fire is burning in heavy continuous fuels and rugged terrain that has limited firefighter access. These conditions make it very hazardous for firefighters to directly attack this fire, therefore they are looking for opportunities to use indirect control lines and burnout operations.
Today, crews will continue construction of indirect line and installation of hoses and pumps in preparation of planned firing operations.
Location: 7 miles east of the I-70/I-15 Interchange, near Shingle Creek in Sevier County
Jurisdiction: Beaver Ranger District, Fishlake National Forest
Fire Size: 157 acres
Cause: Lightning
Fire Behavior: Moderate fire behavior, group torching, and short uphill runs
Structures: None
Closures: Closure orders are anticipated with back burning operations
Percent Contained: 0%
Fuels: Mixed Conifer with heavy component of dead trees, Mahogany
Fire Crews/Resources: 1 type 1 crew, 4 type 2 IA, 2 type 2 dozers, 2 type 6 engines, 3 type 4 engines, 1 camp crew, 1 type 2 helicopter, 2 type 3 helicopters
