Cove Creek Fire Update – July 27, 2018

Summary: The Cove Creek Fire is being managed under a full suppression strategy utilizing a series of tactics including indirect fire line with firing operations to secure that line. Yesterday crews were able to secure portions of the line parallel to some crucial infrastructure. Today and in the next few days to come, weather contingent, the crews will continue with ignitions processes. Still protecting values at risk. Smoke will be visible from the surrounding areas. For those traveling along the highway corridors please DO NOT STOP ALONG THE ROADWAY.

Location: 7 miles east of the I-70/I-15 Interchange, near Shingle Creek in Sevier County

Jurisdiction: Beaver Ranger District, Fishlake National Forest

Fire Behavior: Active, crowning, and uphill runs

Fuels: Mixed conifer and mahogany timber stand with heavy component of dead and down

Size: 975 acres

Containment: 5%

Structures: None

Total Resources: 286
