Cove Creek Fire Update – July 30, 2018

Summary: Yesterday, crews were able to make good progress using firing operations along the north and west perimeter of the fire. Today, crews will be cleaning up hot spots within the interior and will continue to hold and secure the fireline. Smoky conditions will impact the I-70 and I-15 corridors. Please be cautious when driving in the area.

Location: 7 miles east of the I-70/I-15 Interchange, near Shingle Creek in Sevier County

Jurisdiction: Beaver Ranger District, Fishlake National Forest

Cause: Lightning

Size: 1363 acres

Containment: 20 percent

Fire Behavior: Moderate, isolated torching

Total Resources: 238

Fuels: Mixed conifer and mahogany timber stand with heavy component of dead and down

Structures: None

Closures: Temporary road closures are now in effect for the following areas:
