A smoky inversion remained fairly heavy over the vicinity again today. Please drive slowly through the US 6 corridor as visibility may be diminished and large fire vehicles are also traveling the road.
A drone was spotted flying near Strawberry Reservoir this afternoon while aircraft were dipping water for the Coal Hollow Fire. Although it was not within restricted airspace, everyone is reminded not to fly drones near wildfires because of the potential to cause a collision. Aircraft operations were not suspended today after the drone was seen, but they could have been if the aircraft had come any closer to one another.

Current Situation: Similar to yesterday, the Coal Hollow Fire burned actively today but did not make any significant runs. In the northwest corner, the fire is moving laterally across the terrain, towards Sky High Spring. In the same area, firefighters conducted a burnout adjacent to US 6 today to create an additional buffer should the fire burn down the hill towards the highway. The fire is also burning down the Right Fork of Clear Creek, also towards US 6. Firefighters are closely monitoring the fire’s advance in all directions and making preparations for any threat to structures or utilities that may be impacted. This includes removing brush and other fuels from around some values to create defensible space.
Total acreage on the fire has been broken down into approximate values by agency ownership: West Desert District Bureau of Land Management, 366 acres (2%); private, 277 acres (2%); Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands, 2,900 acres (16%); and Manti-La Sal National Forest, 14,000 (80%).
Evacuation and pre-evacuation notices remain unchanged; however, Utah, Carbon, and Sanpete County Sheriffs are working with Great Basin Team 4 to refine the evacuation lines. Current Situation: All evacuations for the Hill Top Fire were lifted this morning by the Sanpete County Sheriff. Residents are still under pre-evacuation notice. This is being reviewed by fire managers and the Sheriff continually. There was no change in the perimeter of the fire today, and containment is expected by Monday if conditions remain the same. With the success firefighters have had on the Hill Top Fire, more resources are being moved to assist on Coal Hollow.
