 NORTH EDEN FIRE – AUGUST 18, 2018

The North Eden fire is currently 13,735 acres and 20% contained.

Yesterday, crews utilized aircraft and firing operations to mitigate fire spread. This interagency effort included the following volunteer fire departments Bear Lake County (ID), Cache County Fire, Cokeville (WY), Garden City, Hyrum, Woodruff, Randolph, Laketown, Logan, North Logan, Paradise, and Rich County Roads Department. State resources responded from Utah and Wyoming. Federal resources include the Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service and the US Forest Service.

Today, approximately 125 firefighters will work towards containing the fire, keeping fire from spreading east of the 207 Road and south of South Lake, while securing line along the north and west flanks of the fire. Fire mangers are working to minimize impacts to travel corridors and communities.

Friday night cooler temperatures and precipitation moved across the fire and will continue throughout Saturday. This moderated fire behavior; however, gusty winds and dry fine fuels will create a potential for fire spread.

Road closures are currently in effect: North Eden, South Eden, Left Fork of Laketown Canyon, Christy Canyon, Rabbit Creek and other roads leading into the fire area.

Visitors to Bear Lake should be aware that scooper planes may be working on the east side of the lake. Please exercise caution.
