FIRE INFORMATION UPDATE

Date Started: August 30, 2018                              Location: North of Liberty/Eden

Resources: 5 engines, 6 handcrews, 3 helicopters, 2 scooper planes, 3 water tenders.

Cooperators: Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands

Status:  The Avon Fire, located in Weber County started around 3:00 pm yesterday afternoon. It quickly grew in size and Powder Mountain Ski Resort was placed in evacuation status. Scooper planes dipped from the nearby Pineview Reservoir, restricting access to the public. The fire is burning in thick fuel primarily grass, sage and oak. Spot fires pose a risk for spread.

Today:  Firefighters will continue work to establish line and air resources will continue to drop water on the fire. Some objectives are to keep the fire north and west of Broadmouth Canyon, east of Avon Divide Road, and south of Public Grove. More resources are ordered and will be arriving today.

Restrictions:  Scooper planes will be dipping out of Pineview Reservoir today and will be closed to the public. Powder Mountain Ski Resort is under evacuation and closed to the public.

Safety:  Be cautious when driving in the area. Do not stop on roads.
