Pole Creek Fire Update 9-13-18

Spanish Fork, Utah, September 13, 2018 – The Pole Creek Fire, is located in the Nebo Loop area on the Spanish Fork Ranger District in Juab County.

Due to warm, dry, and windy weather conditions, the Pole Creek fire has increased to approximately 4000 acres.  The fire made a significant push to the northeast yesterday, and into the bottom of Nebo Canyon. This has forced the evacuation of homes along the Hwy 89 corridor from the junction of Hwy 6 (Thistle) to Indianola.

For public safety, due to rapid growth of the fire and extreme fire behavior, temporary closures have been implemented on roads and trails on the Spanish Fork Ranger District.

Fire managers are flying reconnaissance missions this morning to assess the fire, and crews are actively engaged on the ground. More resources are enroute to the fire today.  A Type 1 Incident Command Team has been ordered and will take over command of the fire tomorrow.

Rapid fire growth to the north and east is expected to continue with forecasted high winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures over the next few days. Smoke will be visible from parts of the I-15, Hwy 6, and Hwy 89 corridors, Payson, Nephi and surrounding communities.
