FIRE INFORMATION UPDATE
September 4, 2018
Time: 8:00 a.m. Cause: Human, arson
Size: 585 acres Percent Contained: 5%
Date Started: September 3, 2018 Location: 6.5 miles northeast of Coalville
Resources: 9 engines, 4 SEATS, 2 heavy air tankers, 2 helicopter, 2 helitack crew, 2 water tenders, 3 handcrews
Cooperator: Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands
Status: Direct attack was implemented where safely possible. Resources focused on the north and east flanks of the fire, working off of established private roads. Fire retardant was dropped on the west flank of the fire, and the fire showed little to no growth in that direction. After last nights’ flight, the acreage has been updated to 585 acres. The fire is 5% contained on the north flank of the fire. The fire was monitored through the night. Today, crews will be working to establish line along the south and west flanks of the fire. The Echo Creek Ranches area is located four miles east of the fire and is still in pre-evacuation status. One lane eastbound I-80 is closed from milemarker 169 to 171.
Fire investigators determined the cause to be arson. They are looking for suspects. Anyone with information should contact the Summit County Sheriff’s Department.
Safety: Be cautious when driving in the area. Do not stop on roads.
Smoke will be visible from Ogden Valley, Coalville, Evanstan,Wyoming and other surrounding areas.
