Pole Creek Fire Update 9/12/2018

Spanish Fork, Utah, September 12, 2018 – The Pole Creek Fire, was reported on September 6, 2018 and has been determined as lightning caused. The fire is located in the Mount Nebo Loop area, south of Summit trail #113, on the Spanish Fork Ranger District in Juab County. Due to warm, dry and windy conditions, the fire has grown to approximately 400 acres. The fire acreage is expected to increase to the north and east with high winds in the forecast over the next few days.  Smoke will be visible from parts of the I-15 and Hwy 89 corridors, surrounding communities, and along the Mount Nebo Loop Scenic Byway.

Due to the complexity of the fire and growth potential the Northern Utah Interagency Type 3 Incident Management Team has officially transitioned into management of the Pole Creek as of this morning.

Firefighters will continue using confine and contain suppression techniques to minimize risk to firefighters while allowing the fire to remove accumulated dead and down fuels, and enhance wildlife habitat.

Firefighters will be working to minimize fire spread to the east of Forest Service road # 015 (Nebo Loop), south and west of Trail # 113 (Summit trail), west of Trail # 088 (Page Fork), south of Forest Service road #045 (Nebo Creek Road), west of Trail #103 (Nebo Creek) and north of Forest Service road #016 (Pole Canyon).

Please do not stop on the roadway, utilize gravel turn outs along the Nebo Loop. The Spanish Fork Ranger District is asking the public to avoid the Summit Trail # 113.

There are 135 personnel on the fire including one Hotshot crew, three Type 2 hand crews, one engine, and one Type 3 Incident Management Team.

Smoke and flames may be visible from the Mount Nebo Scenic Byway and Devil’s Kitchen day-use area, please do not report, please stay out of the active fire area.
